The Irish Heroes for Children series offers informative biographies to inspire younger readers to learn more about the fascinating men and women who shaped Irish history. This book is a very good inroduction to Collins and his times for readers aged 8-14. It is written objectively and comprehensively while capturing the daring and adventure of the man that will appeal to young readers to encourage them to look further into the gravitas of the events depicted. As a school teacher I would definitely recommend this book for use with young readers as a springboard for discussion with adults. The only improvement would be pictures, whch always appeal to younger readers and would lend context to the narration.
