On Saturday 5th February 1972, IRA Volunteers Phelim Grant and Charles McCamm were tragically killed in a premature explosion at Ballyginniff on the county Antrim shore of Lough Neagh.
After the families were notified, the leadership of the Republican Movement in Dublin issued the following statement:
"The leadership of the Republican Movement regret to announce that two Volunteers Charles McCann and Phelim Grant, from Toombridge area of Co Antrim, were accidentally killed on active service during the course of a sabotage operation in Ballyginniff, Aldergrove, on Saturday night"
