On the 5th of February 1992, 21-year-old IRA Volunteer Joe MacManus was shot dead in a gun battle with a British soldier in Fermanagh.
A Volunteer of the Sligo Brigade of the Irish Republican Army, Joe MacManus was a well known and extremely popular young man who could not sit idly by as the nationalist people of the Six Counties faced the onslaught of the British and Unionist forces.
Joe's father was a key nogitator of the Good Friday Agreement and served as Mayor of Sligo while his brother is currently a Sinn Féin councillor for Sligo.
